Derri\u00e8re les vendeurs de Soya en blouses blanches et l\u2019odeur de la bouillie pr\u00e9par\u00e9e pour la rupture, se joue bien plus qu\u2019un rituel religieux. La chaleur est lourde, les visages concentr\u00e9s. \u00c0 quelques heures de la rupture du je\u00fbne, les mouvements autour des \u00e9tals ralentissent. Des jeunes discutent \u00e0 voix basse devant la grande mosqu\u00e9e. Ibrahim, 23 ans, \u00e9tudiant en droit, vit le mois sacr\u00e9 comme une \u00e9cole de rigueur. \u00abIci, si tu tra\u00eenes trop, on te rappelle \u00e0 l\u2019ordre. Le Ramadan nous discipline. On \u00e9vite les bagarres inutiles, on respecte les anciens\u00bb. Pour lui, l\u2019islam pratiqu\u00e9 \u00e0 la Briqueterie n\u2019est pas qu\u2019une affaire de pri\u00e8re: \u00abC\u2019est un cadre. M\u00eame quand tu es tent\u00e9 par des choses pas bonnes, la communaut\u00e9 te regarde\u00bb. Son ami Abdoulaye, apprenti m\u00e9canicien, ajoute: \u00abOn parle souvent de radicalisme. Mais ici, nos imams nous parlent de paix, de travail. Ils disent que l\u2019islam, c\u2019est construire, pas d\u00e9truire\u00bb. Dans un contexte r\u00e9gional marqu\u00e9 par la mont\u00e9e des violences extr\u00e9mistes, cette parole prend un relief particulier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Les imams, arbitres du quotidien<br><\/strong>\u00c0 l\u2019int\u00e9rieur d&rsquo;une mosqu\u00e9e, l\u2019imam El Kebir insiste sur la responsabilit\u00e9 sociale du croyant. \u00abLe Ramadan, ce n\u2019est pas seulement s\u2019abstenir de manger. C\u2019est purifier son comportement. Si deux commer\u00e7ants se disputent, ils viennent me voir. Si un jeune d\u00e9rive, nous discutons\u00bb, souligne-t-il. Selon lui, la r\u00e9gulation sociale par les autorit\u00e9s religieuses compl\u00e8te l\u2019action de l\u2019\u00c9tat. \u00abNous ne rempla\u00e7ons pas la justice, mais nous pr\u00e9venons beaucoup de conflits\u00bb, confie le guide religieux. Le r\u00f4le des Imams dans la r\u00e9solution des conflits n\u2019est pas nouveau en soi. Il tire sa source de pratiques anciennes qui s\u2019adaptent dans le nouveau contexte social. \u00abAvant, on r\u00e9glait d\u00e9j\u00e0 les probl\u00e8mes autour de la mosqu\u00e9e. La Briqueterie a grandi, mais cette tradition reste\u00bb, souligne le patriarche El Hadj Oumar, 72 ans, rencontr\u00e9 \u00e0 la Briqueterie. Pour ce notable, l\u2019islam a permis de maintenir une coh\u00e9sion dans un quartier dens\u00e9ment peupl\u00e9 et \u00e9conomiquement contrast\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dialogue interreligieux et femmes<br><\/strong>Une boutique tenue par un commer\u00e7ant chr\u00e9tien reste ouverte malgr\u00e9 le je\u00fbne. Il t\u00e9moigne: \u00abPendant le Ramadan, je respecte mes voisins. On \u00e9vite de manger devant eux. \u00c0 No\u00ebl, ils viennent nous saluer aussi\u00bb. L\u2019imam El Kebir confirme l\u2019existence d\u2019\u00e9changes r\u00e9guliers avec les responsables d\u2019\u00e9glises voisines. \u00abNous sommes dans la m\u00eame ville. Si nous ne dialoguons pas, qui le fera?\u00bb Ce dialogue interreligieux, peu m\u00e9diatis\u00e9, participe \u00e0 la stabilit\u00e9 d\u2019un espace urbain o\u00f9 la diversit\u00e9 confessionnelle est une r\u00e9alit\u00e9 quotidienne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dans une concession anim\u00e9e, A\u00efssatou Dabo, 19 ans, pr\u00e9pare des beignets pour la rupture. \u00c9tudiante en sciences sociales \u00e0 l&rsquo;universit\u00e9 de Yaound\u00e9 1, elle revendique sa place. \u00abOn dit souvent que la mosqu\u00e9e est l\u2019affaire des hommes. Mais sans nous, le Ramadan ne tient pas. Nous organisons, nous enseignons aux enfants, nous participons aux associations f\u00e9minines\u00bb, s\u2019exclame-t-elle. Elle est vite suivie dans sa lanc\u00e9e par sa maman: \u00abLes femmes transmettent la foi. C\u2019est nous qui apprenons aux enfants \u00e0 je\u00fbner, \u00e0 prier\u00bb. Si leur visibilit\u00e9 institutionnelle reste limit\u00e9e, leur r\u00f4le social est central. Certaines participent d\u00e9sormais \u00e0 des cercles d\u2019enseignement religieux, signe d\u2019une \u00e9volution progressive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Pr\u00e9venir les d\u00e9rive: le r\u00f4le de l\u2019\u00e9ducation<br><\/strong>La Briqueterie offre un cas d\u2019\u00e9cole. Telle est la conclusion \u00e0 laquelle parvient le sociologue urbain Dr. Hamadou \u00e0 l\u2019observation des mutations sociales et des interactions des communaut\u00e9s qui y vivent. \u00abL\u2019islam local fonctionne comme un syst\u00e8me normatif. Il fixe des r\u00e8gles, valorise la solidarit\u00e9, et surtout, encadre la jeunesse. Cette proximit\u00e9 r\u00e9duit les risques de radicalisation\u00bb, affirme-t-il. Il nuance toutefois: \u00abLe risque z\u00e9ro n\u2019existe pas. Mais la force des r\u00e9seaux communautaires ici constitue un rempart important\u00bb. Selon lui, le Ramadan agit comme un moment de renforcement identitaire positif. \u00abOn r\u00e9affirme l\u2019appartenance \u00e0 une communaut\u00e9, mais dans un cadre national\u00bb, renseigne l\u2019homme de sciences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Au coucher du soleil, l\u2019appel \u00e0 la pri\u00e8re r\u00e9sonne. Les dattes circulent, les \u00ab\u00a0boutas\u00a0\u00bb d\u2019eau passent de main en main. Les diff\u00e9rences sociales semblent suspendues. \u00c0 la Briqueterie, le Ramadan r\u00e9v\u00e8le un islam urbain ancr\u00e9 dans la tradition mais attentif aux d\u00e9fis contemporains. Entre autorit\u00e9 morale, dialogue interreligieux, pr\u00e9vention des radicalismes et engagement discret des femmes, la communaut\u00e9 musulmane structure une partie de la vie sociale de Yaound\u00e9.
